Before you register

Your domain name, in 60 seconds.

The .com is your address online — what customers type and what Google shows. Here's how to get a good one: in your name, for about $15 a year.

The obvious ones are gone

Every short .com — ac.com and everything like it — was taken years ago. The ones for sale cost thousands. Don't chase them, and don't pay a premium for one.

Real contractors use their business name, often with their trade or city in it. That's not a compromise — a name that says what you do and where you do it is easier to remember and better for search.

Rules for a good one

.com first. It's what people assume.

Short enough to say over the phone — you'll be spelling it to customers for years.

No hyphens, no numbers. People mishear them and end up at somebody else's site.

Nothing your customers will misspell. If they can't type it, they can't find you.

What it costs

About $10–20 a year at any registrar. At checkout they'll push extras — email packages, "premium" protection, multi-year terms. Decline them. Privacy protection is free at the good registrars.

Register it in your name

Your account, your name, your card. Whoever's name is on the domain owns it — and getting one back from somebody else's account is a fight you don't want.

Anyone who offers to register it "for you" in their name is holding your business hostage, whether they mean to or not. This one stays yours, full stop.

How to pick yours

Type your business name into a registrar's search. Taken? Add your trade, your city, or both until one comes up free. Five minutes, done.

Then tell us the name on your intake — we handle the hookup when your site launches.
